mpire Committee – Online Teams Session Report
On Sunday, December 7th, the AETF Umpire Committee organised the first Teams session for umpires. Over 140 enthusiastic European umpires attended this session, in which they were informed about the new AETF Active Umpire Training Program. The next session, discussing rule updates, is planned for January 25th (https://itfeurope.org/aetf- umpire-active-program-virtual- meeting-sessions-rule-updates- explained-focus-on-pattern- scoring/)
This opening session marked an important step in the roll-out of the AETF Active Umpire Training Program, an initiative designed to strengthen the quality, consistency, and development of officiating across Europe. Led by Sbn. Rory de Vries, Jacqui Wallace, and Camilla Rolstad, the committee presented the mission of the program, its structure, and the roadmap for umpire education over the coming year.
The presentation outlined the program’s three key pillars—online modules, European Qualifying Umpire Courses (EQUC), and performance evaluation.
Participants were introduced to upcoming online learning sessions, including modules on rule updates, Sportdata usage, and the preparatory meeting for the European Championships.
The Committee also highlighted the new AETF Umpire Registry,
which provides official recognition for Active Umpires and integrates directly with Sportdata to ensure transparent, efficient event administration. Attendees received information on qualification criteria, merit points, and the selection pathway for AETF European Championships.
A dedicated Q&A segment allowed participants to raise questions related to education, pathways, and expectations, reflecting a strong spirit of engagement and unity.
The AETF warmly thanks all umpires and national associations for their participation and support as we continue building a modern, well-structured, and forward-looking education framework for European officiating.
